Connecting to Eduroam for Mac

1. Make sure that you are running OS 10.9.5 or later on your computer.

2. Click on the Wifi icon in the upper right corner of your desktop.

3. Select Eduroam as the network. Your computer will prompt you for a username and password.

Note: If your computer doesn't prompt you to put in a username and password but it still doesn't connect to Eduroam, you will need to forget the network before trying to connect. Please see the additional troubleshooting tab at the top of this page for instructions on how to forget the network.

4. The username is your student email. It needs to be formatted as <yournetid>@byu.edu.

5. Your password will be your BYU password, the same one you use for all BYU websites.

6. Click "Join" to join the network.

7. Click "Continue," when prompted, to accept the security certificate.

8. A computer administrator name and password will be required to install the certificate - this is a username and password on the computer, not one that is provided by or associated with BYU. It will be the same username and password that you normally use to install apps and software on the device.

Connecting to Eduroam for iPhone/iPad

1. Open the "Settings" app.

2. Under "Wi-Fi" select the network called "eduroam".

3. Your device will prompt you for your username and password.

4. The username is your student email. It needs to be formatted as <yournetid>@byu.edu.

5. Your password will be your BYU password, the same one you use for all BYU websites.

6. Click "Trust," when prompted, to accept the security certificate. 

7. You should now be connected to Eduroam and have access to the internet.

Additional Troubleshooting Steps


Forgetting the Network on Mac

  1. Click on the Wifi icon in the upper right corner of your desktop and select "Wi-Fi settings".
  2.  Click on "Advanced" in the window. 
  3.  In the list of known networks, select "Eduroam."Click on the circle with 3 dots and select "Remove From List". 
  4. You can now try reconnecting to Eduroam using the steps under the "Mac" tab.

Clear Cached Network Data

Sometimes Macs will keep some information about the Eduroam network in it's configuration files, which can cause problems when you're trying to connect. Follow these steps to delete the configuration file.

  1. Open Finder and click on "Go" at the top of the screen next to window "View" and "Window".
  2. Click on "Go to Folder" near the bottom of the dropdown menu.
  3. Type/paste in: /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
  4. Delete com.apple.network.eapolclient.configuration.plist
  5. Restart the computer.
  6. Try connecting to Eduroam again.

Steps for Older Mac OS

For some older versions of Mac OSX (MacOS 12 and earlier), you can try these steps to delete the configuration file.

1. From any Finder window, hit Command+Shift+G to bring up the “Go To Folder” field. Type in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/

2. Delete the com.apple.network.eapolclient.configuration.plist file.

3. This will prompt you to enter your local admin credentials. - this is a username and password on the computer, not one that is provided by or associated with BYU. It will be the same username and password that you normally use to install apps and software on the device.

4. Restart the laptop or iMac and connect to Eduroam.
